You’ve got your tool box filled with chips and dip and your cookies in the shape of different tools, but what in the world can you serve that is filling and healthy for your guests? If you want to build on the theme, you can find corkscrew-shaped pasta and make this special dish in honor of Handy Manny:

Handy Manny Pasta and Cheese

• Cook the spiral pasta according to the package and set aside.
• In a cooking pot, melt 3 tablespoons of margarine.
• Add 2 Tablespoons of flour, mix, add 3 cups of milk and 3 cups of Velveeta cheese (or any
• kind you like), and mix again.
• Pour over the noodles and mix. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or keep warm in a crockpot until you are ready to serve.

For an alternative, simple Spanish dish, make some super-easy quesadillas with tortillas and cheese. Serve a fruit tray or a veggie tray to balance out the meal, and provide a few drink choices like single-serving milk drinks (i.e. Chugs in different flavors), juice boxes, or children’s sized water bottles.

Set up a few crafting, fixing, and building stations at different places in your party venue, so that children can visit and explore at anytime during the party. It is important to keep the kids occupied while at the same time making sure they have tons of fun. You can provide some Handy Manny books, a lego building station, action figures, some blocks, some puzzles to “fix”, a plush toolbox with tools, and some Handy Manny tools or costumes for pretend play.

Keep crafts simple so children can complete them independently, with just a few required supplies. Oriental Trading Company sells foam lacing tools that can be added as a free-play item. For more specific crafts, they also sell canvas tool belts that children can decorate and color with fabric markers or fabric crayons. Or, purchase tool chest picture frames made of foam for guests to decorate with some handyman cardstock stickers.

For super simple coloring activities, you can find Handy Manny coloring and activity pages on the Disney website or you can buy a Handy Manny Coloring book for all the children. Print out several copies of some different images, and set them out on a small table with some crayons, markers, or colored pencils (add gel pens or watercolor markers, or scented crayons for something a little different). Although, you don’t want guests to get stuck watching television at your party, you might put on a DVD or episod during meal time. That way children might actually eat something healthy while they are watching. Look for an episode like Leela’s Birthday or Happy Birthday Mr. Lopart, to build on the theme.

You’ll want to keep your young party guests busy and having fun throughout your party, so plan a few simple games that will keep guests engaged, but be sure to allow for free-play time as well.

Manny’s Marshmallow Relay Race
Split guests into two equal groups and line them up in an open play space that is about 20-30 feet long. Provide each team with a marshmallow and a choice of tools – such as a wrench, a hammer, a set of pliers, or a tape measure. Explain the rules: the first person on each team must balance the marshmallow on the chosen tool while racing to the other end of the playing space and back. If the marshmallow falls off of the tool, the child must pick it up, put it back on, and continue. When the first player returns, he or she must pass the tool and the marshmallow to the next player who follows the same directions. Play continues until all players in the relay have completed the task. Alternatively, you can use inflatable tools so that there is very little danger for the kids!

*Note: For older children, extend the distance, have players spin around in circles before beginning the race, or have them wear oversized shoes during the relay.

Flicker Tag
This is a great game to play at night or in a dark space. One person is “it” and holds a flash light. He or she must try to tag others with the light of the flash light. Be sure to explain that children are not allowed to shine the light in anyone’s face. When a child is tagged with the light, that person becomes “it”, takes the flash light, and tries to tag others.

Flicker Disco
Give each child a flashlight, turn off or dim the lights, and encourage each child to shine the light at the ceiling and shake it to make a disco light. Put on some music and let your party guests move!

Stetch’s Long Jump Challenge
Use masking tape or electrical tape to create a long jump line on the floor. Challenge each child to see how far he or she can jump. Then, help each child measure the distance with a real measuring tape, and mark that child’s jump distance with a personalized sticker label. Give small prizes to all competitors.

Remember, that party favors make a great 'prize' for all the kids. Simply be sure to write their name on the bags or boxes to ensure they know who's bag is who's!

So, if your child is familiar with the new characters, be sure to include them in your party as well. They might even want to learn about them in the new Handy Manny DVD.
